The Xchange Student Ministry exists to partner with parents to raise their teens to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Pickens First Baptist Church Student Ministry is working to change the culture of our community. We want to see students come to Jesus, serve in the church and enter into adulthood equipped to be Christian leaders.

Life Groups

Youth Life Groups meet at 9:00 AM in the Xchange. We meet as a large group for prayer and announcements. We then divide up into the following small groups:

  • Middle School Co-Ed: Taught by Chip Dunn, Lauren Ashley, and Megan Shipman

  • High School Co-Ed: Taught by Lynn Williams, Jeremy Simmons, and Andrew Shipman

Our Youth Life Groups use the Gospel Project curriculum. The Gospel Project is a Christ-centered, chronological Bible study that will take your students on a three year journey through the storyline of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation to see how Christ connects with all of Scripture. Along the way, students will discover the big picture of what God has been doing throughout redemptive history, and what it means for them.

Students are searching for the truth, and what they desperately need is the hope of the gospel. The Gospel Project’s Christ-centered, chronological Bible studies are designed to continuously trace the need for redemption in the stories of the Bible and outline the promise of redemption, through the blood of Christ, to the students’ stories, too.

Sunday Night Worship

Sunday nights at the Xchange meet from 6:00-7:00 PM and are a focused exegetical time of teaching, designed to meet students where they are—whether they are just beginning their journey of faith or have matured in their relationship with Jesus. We believe that Sunday nights should be the intersection of fun, fellowship, and intentional biblical teaching.

A typical Sunday night includes:

  • 10 minutes for announcements and connecting with students

  • 20 minutes for a game, creating an environment of fun and fellowship

  • 30 minutes for an in-depth lesson, helping students engage with Scripture in a meaningful way

  • Food & fellowship after the lesson – We provide food for students, which may include popcorn, pizza rolls, tacos, spaghetti, or other snacks and meals

Through this structure, we encourage students to ask questions, wrestle with truth, and grow in their understanding of God's Word. This time is not just about learning but about creating a space where students can encounter Christ, build strong relationships, and deepen their faith in a supportive and engaging environment.

Wednesday Nights

Wednesday nights are more topical, focusing on relevant issues such as relationships, current events, and other subjects that matter to students. We understand that families have busy schedules, so we provide pizza for students from 6:00-6:30 PM before our youth time begins.

A typical Wednesday night includes:

  • 6:00-6:30 PM – Pizza available for students

  • 6:30-6:40 PM – Announcements & student connection

  • 6:40-7:00 PM – Game time for fun and fellowship

  • 7:00-7:30 PM – Topical lesson addressing real-life issues through a biblical lens

Through both Sunday and Wednesday night gatherings, we strive to create a welcoming space where students can grow in their faith, build meaningful relationships, and deepen their understanding of God's Word.
